Around The Town

The world of hardware is hardly glamorous.

There are those who consider nothing quite so dull as an in-depth discussion about nuts, bolts, screws and washers. Or a which-is-better chat about hammers, screwdrivers and the ever-popular socket wrench.

Until you need the right one, that is.

Andy Carlson is doing his part to make the world of tools, building materials and home improvement projects an easier place to navigate. The owner of Ace Alameda Station, 417 S. Broadway since it opened in 2006, Carlson recently negotiated the purchase of the Cherry Creek Ace Hardware, at Florida Ave. and S. Holly St.

The former software marketing executive turned home improvement guru is investing over $100,000 beefing up the existing inventory at his new location by some 30 percent, as well as doubling the size of the Garden Center.

Hopefully you’ve gotten your Profile early this month, and will be able to show off your backyard culinary chops in the annual Grill Your Ace Off grilling competition, to be held on Sat., June 9. Grill Your Ace Off is the brainchild of Carlson’s staff, which came up with the idea four years ago as a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital of Colorado. The first Grill Your Ace Off was a single-store event at the Alameda Station store, and since then has grown into an annual celebration at stores across Colorado – it’s expected to raise more than $10,000 this year.

Both of Carlson’s Ace locations are open Mon.-Sat., 8a.m.–8p.m.; Sun., 9a.m.-6p.m. Visit acealamedastation.com or call Ace Alameda Station at 303-733-3200. For details on Cherry Creek Ace Hardware, call 303- 691-3435 or visit acecherrycreek.com.
