Last Call For Super Swell Sights & Sounds of Summer Still In Full Swing

Summer vacation’s drawing to a close, but a handful of fun outdoor concerts and movies remain on the calendar.

Many are free, some cost a little, all are perfect for entertaining friends and family. So gather up your lawn chairs, grab your favorite blanket and pack something good to eat. There’s still time for summer fun in old South Denver.

2011 South Pearl Street Rock The Block Music Festivals
in the 1200 block of S. Pearl St.

Blues & Brews, on Sat., Aug. 13, is the final festival in this popular series, and will feature live performances by Felonius Smith, She Groovez, Bugs Henderson, Lionel Young Band, 3 Twins, Big Bill Morganfield and Marcia Ball. The concerts run noon-10p.m., and welcome all members of your tribe (but no pooches, please). Admission is still an affordable $5. Microbrew beers and festival eats for purchase. The City of Denver’s Department of Parks & Recreation continues its popular Movies in the Park! – family fare films shown on huge inflatable screens with high-quality sound; free films, popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones at dusk on the park lawns. University of Denver Lamont School of Music Summer Carillon Recital Series

Carillonneur Janet Tebbel performs the fifth, final and free carillon concert of the summer on Wed., Aug. 17, 7p.m., rain or shine. The best listening space is in the courtyard at the south end of the Ritchie Center, 2201 E. Asbury Ave. Bring a chair!
