Bright Images Help Bring Sight To Blind Baby Vianca | Print |  E-mail

by Carl Brainard

We told you in this space last month about the plight of young baby Vianca, who was born blind due to Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, and is in China undergoing treatment not currently available in the United States.

Vianca is the granddaughter of Stan and Bernice Geels, owners of Stella’s Coffee House, 1476 S. Pearl St.

In order to help defray the considerable expense involved, a group of local artists is creating a mural depicting a typical summer day at Stella’s. The initial painting was “washed in” by Susan Bell, owner of Bell Studio/Gallery, 1573 S. Pearl St. Each of the 15 individual panels will be over-painted by a talented group of artists in their own style, keeping true to the colors, shapes and values of the original mural, and inspired by the themes of coffee or sight.

When completed, the panels will be auctioned for bids beginning at $100. A print of the entire mural will also be available by the end of this month. All proceeds will go towards the costs of Vianca’s treatments.

Among the artists participating are: Judy Babcock, Susan Bell, Joan Crow, Victoria Eubanks, Susan Haskins, Kate Kennedy, Lynn Simonson, Clyde Steadman, Roseanne Sterne, Michelle Torrez, Anita Winter, Ken Valastro and Ed Zorensky.

For more information, see page 22 or call Susan Bell, 303-282-7343.
