Oh it’s a long way back, for us to remember,
But we were born – (long ago) in September.
Yes, we’re a Virgo, sort of picky, it’s true,
But you know we enjoy a good time, too!

A Good Time will be had by all at the October 10 General UP Meeting at UP School. Save the date! Refreshments at 6:30, Program from 7-8:30p.m. with an Update on OOP – an oopdate – (One Observatory Place), and much More. See your UPwords newsletter for details later this month, arriving with your new Purple Pages info book.

First Tues. of the month is a Good Time for UP Community Council board to meet. If you have items for the Sept. 4 agenda, please contact UP pres. Dana O’Connor at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it (or 303-920-0193).

A Historic Good Time will come for all who’d like to help with a native plant educational walk for UP’s Prairie Park, along the North side of Historic Buchtel Blvd. Trail. This great project is getting started, and all are welcome to help in the planning and creation. There’s also the idea of some art for this park. UP also hopes to get going on improvements to the Harvard Gulch trail. The new bridge at McWilliams Park is due to be done Now. And – a mystery has yet to be solved as we write ... a stone with “Mary McIntyre 1973” carved on it is in one of our parks. Do you know anything about Mary McI.? For park matters please contact UPCC Park chmn.Diana Helper (see below).

A Studious Good Time is going on at UP School, where there’s a new playground. The garden now needs to be built out, so please help with this Sept. 6 from 4-6p.m. Then on Sept. 13 this “Learning Landscape” will be dedicated at 3p.m. Curriculum Night is Sept. 27, and International Walk to School Day is October 3. The school is quite full and now will accept only lucky students who live in UP.

Starry good times come Sept. 22 at Chamberlin Observatory, the monthly star-gazing night. Visit denverastro.org or call 303-871-5172 for astronomical amounts of info.

Good Worthwhile Times are had at INC (Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation) meetings every month. Come and see for yourself. Larry Ambrose, This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it (first letter is an “L”) or 303-571-1744, is Pres. of this group of over 100 registered neighborhoods in Denver that take on major city topics and compare notes on solutions to problems. UP is a patron member. INC meets at 9a.m. the 2nd Sat. each month. The Parks/Recreation Committee meets at 6p.m. the 3rd Tues. right here in UP at the Heritage Club. The Zoning Committee meets at 9:30a.m. the 4th Saturday at 1201 Williams, 19th flr. More info on other committees and events is at the INC website: DenverINC.org

We had a good time reading the comments UP folks have written on their “voluntary dues” forms. There are thanks and encouragement, concerns we otherwise wouldn’t know about, and expressions of interest in certain committees! We hope each inquiry has been followed up, and urge you to contact UPCC Pres. Dana O’Connor, if you haven’t heard from a previous question, or have a comment.

A Good Busy time will occur in UP at the time of the Presidential Debate at DU October 3. By good, we mean there’ll be a lot going on that DU is doing its best to manage very well. The big parking lot at Buchtel/Josephine is for Media trucks from 38 countries! Some routes will be closed, parking will be dense, security will be tight, and please check your routes if you have to go anywhere and – why not just have a good time staying home. (See article on pg. 1.)

It’s a Welcome Time for people to move into UP, so be sure to meet and greet your new neighbors. Invite them to the Oct. 10 UPCC Fall meeting, help them get acquainted with UP. New residents get a welcome basket from UPCC if Pres. O’Connor knows about them – be sure she does!

And it’s Tomato Time to harvest your crops of Charlie Brown (Red and Yellow) tomatoes! The scent of chili-sauce cookin’ fills the air. Thanks, Councilman.

Have a good time this month, and if you have news or views of UP, please contact Diana Helper, 303-733-4902 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
