SINCE ITS CREATION IN THE EARLY 1900S, THOUSANDS OF DENVERITES AND VISITORS DESCEND ON WASHINGTON PARK every day for fun and relaxation. The crowds grow exponentially on weekends and holidays. Unfortunately, city services have not been sufficient to accommodate the parking and sanitation needs of park users, causing them to meet those needs in nearby neighborhoods. Residents have complained about public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, blocked alleys and driveways and a host of related problems. Denver’s Department of Recreation and Parks has stated its intention to address those concerns, but neighbors worry budget woes may prevent authorities from funding the facilities and manpower needed.
