Looking to put a bright new face on the old homestead, without contributing to the abusive plundering of our planet’s limited resources?

Head north, my friend. To Cherry Creek North, that is.

Revampt is open at 2601 E. 3rd Ave., selling “sensible, utilitarian and affordable” home furnishings, goods and gifts all made from recycled, repurposed or reclaimed materials.

Young entrepreneurs Keir Myers, 22, and Daniel Louis, 26, were inspired by the concept of “upcycling” – creating new products from materials that would have otherwise been discarded as useless. Their building – one of Cherry Creek’s oldest, at over a century – contains salvaged hardwood flooring, brickwork and displays.

Items for sale include a bookshelf made of reclaimed wood from Central City mining cabins, a relaxing chair crafted from an old bourbon barrel, a glass bowl from a reincarnated Grey Goose vodka bottle, keychains from outdated street signs and more. Many of Revampt’s products are sourced from Colorado vendors.

Revampt is open Mon.-Sat., 10a.m.-6p.m. For information call 720-536-5464 or visit revamptgoods.com.

There's nothing like something bright and new under your feet (or hanging on the wall) to brighten up the old homestead. Our good friends at Ten Thousand Villages (2626 E. 3rd Ave.), a gift boutique featuring fair trade merchandise from around the world, will host their annual Fair Trade Oriental Rug Event, May 11-14, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Ave. More than 300 hand-knotted oriental rugs made by fairly paid adults will be offered for sale in sizes from 2' x 3's to 10' x 14's. An Oriental Rug Seminar will be held at the Church, Thurs., May 12, 7p.m., to give you the inside scoop on how the rugs are woven and dyed and how fair trade practices make a difference in artisans' lives. The seminar is FREE, but reservations are required.

To kick off the event, a Go Bananas For Fair Trade celebration will be held at Ten Thousand Villages' Cherry Creek location, Sat., May 7, noon-3p.m. Enjoy complimentary banana split sundaes while you shop for something lovely for Mother's Day.

The Fair Trade Oriental Rug Event takes place May 11, 10a.m.-7p.m.; May 12, 10a.m.-9p.m.; May 13, 10a.m.-7p.m.; and May 14, 10a.m.-5p.m. For information, call Ten Thousand Villages at 303-316-3773 or visit rugs.tenthousandvillages.com.
